projects
I’m always working on some kind of web project. Nothing too fancy. I’m not a programmer — more of an advanced tool user who knows enough HTML, CSS, and PERL to be dangerous. Here’s a list of a few of my endeavors:
Bob’s Trick Tips
http://www.bobstricktips.com
BTT was really my first site. I started it back in 1999, when bandwidth was pretty expensive. It has gone through several redesigns, but in each version the main feature was an archive of skateboard trick tips, with still images and associated short video clip. I shut the site down in October 2009, after 10 years on the web. I felt that it had served its purpose. Time for new things.
bonelessone.com
http://www.bonelessone.com
Another skateboarding site, this is sort of a clubhouse for old skaters, many of them in Texas. This site is run with WordPress. I guess the main feature of this site is a message board, run with good ol’ phpBB2. The availability of sites like flickr and youtube have made the b1 gallery pretty useless over the last 2 years.
Texas Poolsharks
http://www.texaspoolsharks.net
I’m working with the owner of TPS to recreate the site, which was originally run on MSN Groups. Just started this, so it will be a while, but the message board is up.
Video Projects
I have a number of skate related video projects in mind, none of which I’ve started on yet. Lately I’ve been shooting a lot of video with my digital camera, and doing little “quick and dirty” videos. Actually, even my camcorder stuff has been quick and dirty, but I’m going to start working on some longer, more well-edited vids. Here’re a few things on youtube.
Small School Skateboards
http://www.smallschool.biz
This is the skateboard company owned by Jeremy Elder. I set up a blog on his site, and I’m going to be helping him with the rest of the site.
Plano Aikido Center
http://www.planoaikido.com
This is the site for the Aikido dojo where I practice. Our dojo went independent this year, and thus we needed our own website. Later this year I’ll be working with one of the other members to add some nice back-end functionality to the site. The art is by our teacher, Sidney Shiba Sensei.
SuburbanShift.com
Just started working on this site, which I’ll be doing with my wife. It will be the home of our SuburbanShift podcast, about making your lifestyle in the suburbs more sustainable, converting the suburbs into better places to live. As such, it will deal with home renewable energy, organic gardening, rainwater harvesting, energy efficiency, bicycles, etc.
